Now in its 10th year, City Ballet of Cleveland’s Uniquely Cleveland Nutcracker is an experience like no other.

When the curtain opens, audience members are transported to the beautiful home of one of Cleveland’s most notable families. As the holiday party continues, children and adults will delight in the joy portrayed on stage. Once all the guests have departed for the evening, the real excitement begins. Who will win tonight’s game-the Mouse King and his army or the Nutcracker and his team? Follow young Katherine on a journey to the lands of her dreams in this uniquely Cleveland twist of a holiday classic.

“While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads.” The holiday season will soon be here, and what better way to celebrate the start of this magical time than with City Ballet of Cleveland’s Sugarplum Fairy Tea?
Tickets go on sale on September 12!
Enjoy a charming afternoon of delicious delights and endearing performances, including an appearance from the Sugarplum Fairy, in the Grand Ballroom of the Shaker Heights Country Club. In addition, children will enjoy fun art activities and movement experiences, and their grown-ups can have the chance to start the holiday shopping a little early and enter for the chance to win an exciting raffle basket or two.
Tickets purchased online from Monday, September 26, 2022–Tuesday, November 8, 2022, are guaranteed preferred seating at the event. A limited number of tickets may be available at the door. Tickets purchased after November 8, 2022, or at the door increase by $10. Valet parking is included with your ticket purchase.

NUTCRACKER AUDITION

City Ballet of Cleveland is holding its annual Uniquely Cleveland Nutcracker audition on Sunday, September 18th, from 12:30 pm–4:00 pm [subject to change]. The audition is open to all area ballet dancers ages eight and older. Dancers auditioning for pointe roles, including Act I Snow and Act II Waltz of the Flowers, should wear their pointe shoes to audition. Potential dancers do not need to be students at Cleveland City Dance; however, students must be enrolled in classes at their current studio or Cleveland City Dance during the rehearsal process.

The 2022 Uniquely Cleveland Nutcracker performances are scheduled for December 17th at 7:00 pm and December 18th at 2:00 pm at The Breen Center for the Performing Arts, 1911 W 30th & Lorain Rd Cleveland, (Ohio City) OH.

A pre-registration form and $25 audition fee should be submitted by Thursday, September 15th.

City Ballet of Cleveland presents its annual spring repertoire concert on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the Breen Center for Performing Arts. This diverse and entertaining program features excerpts from the classical ballet Swan Lake, a children’s favorite Dr. Copplia’s Workshop, and other mixed repertoires. The company is thrilled to welcome a full live audience once again! We will also be offering live-streamed tickets for those who want to watch from the comfort of their home.

In-person tickets for the performance are $40.

Livestream tickets are $25.

Video on demand tickets are $40.

There is a processing fee of $2.65 per ticket.

Tickets are available for purchase from Monday, April 11 to Friday, May 20, 2022.

City Ballet of Cleveland 2022 Audition

Parents’ Meet and Greet During the Audition
Mandatory Meeting with the Director at 2:30 pm

City Ballet of Cleveland is a pre-professional dance company of the highest caliber in Northeast Ohio. We foster every dancer’s ability and promote a love of dance through pre-professional training, performance, and community engagement.

 The City Ballet of Cleveland (CBC) audition is open to all serious dancers of ballet ages 10-21.  The company has two annual performances in May and December, as well as potential performances at All Ohio Dance Festival, local schools, and more.  Applications are available at the Company bulletin board and online at www.cityballetofcleveland.org  under Company information.

Potential dancers can be students from any area dance school.  All dancers must be a minimum of 10 years old by September 2022; be currently taking ballet, modern, or jazz.

Notice of nondiscriminatory policy; The City Ballet of Cleveland does not discriminate based on race, color, national and ethnic origin, ancestry, or nationality in its admissions policies, scholarship programs, or any other company activities administered.

If you do not take ballet classes at Cleveland City Dance and make it into the Company, your current dance school will be asked to sign off monthly to confirm you are taking the required dance training necessary to be a member with City Ballet of Cleveland.

All potential Company members must audition in the spring prior to the upcoming season. This includes all current Company members.  There is a $25 non-refundable audition fee (cash or check). Applications are due the Thursday, April 21 before the audition.  Applications arriving after Wednesday will be assessed an additional $10. The audition class will be taught by the Company Artistic and Executive Director, Courtney J. Laves-Mearini.

If unable to attend the audition;  In lieu of an in-personal audition, one may submit a virtual audition on a private YouTube channel. The audition requirements are:

  1. A 15-20-minute demonstration of barre and center technique.
  2. The barre technique should include pliés, battement tendus, battement jété, ronde de jambe, passé, développé en croix, grands battements and balances on one leg.
  3. The center technique should include adagio, pirouettes, petite allegro and grande allegro.  (For female dancers on pointe include relevés in first, sous sus, éschappés and retiré balance)
  4. A classical variation one to two minutes in length.  (On pointe for advanced ladies)

This is to show your technical abilities along with performing presence.

The Sugarplum Fairy Tea

City Ballet of Cleveland is delighted to offer the magical Sugarplum Fairy Tea on Sunday, November 14th, from 2:00–4:00 pm. Now in its 7th year, the annual benefit supports the upcoming Uniquely Cleveland Nutcracker performances. So join us for a charming afternoon of delicious delights and endearing performances, including an appearance from the Sugarplum Fairy, in the Cleveland Skating Club Ballroom.

Catered by the Cleveland Skating Club, you’ll enjoy hot beverages and sweet treats as you listen to live music playing seasonal favorites. Then, shop the Petite Boutique, complete a fun craft, raffles, and more. Finally, end your afternoon with a sneak peek of CBC’s “The Uniquely Cleveland Nutcracker,” featuring the Sugarplum Fairy and more.

Online tickets are available Wednesday, October 13 through 7 pm, Friday, November 12th. Advance ticket prices are available through midnight Sunday, November 7th, with a $10 increase per ticket thereafter. Seating is assigned from the center of the ballroom to the perimeter, with all online purchases guaranteed seating. Each table seats six (6) guests. Parties wishing to be seated at the same table should buy tickets under one name.

Limited tickets may be available at the door. In addition, a limited cash bar with adult beverages will be available at the event. Parking is free.

COVID 19 Protocol for the event: All attendees will be required to wear masks when not eating or drinking. All staff working the event will be masked.
