The City Ballet of Cleveland (CBC) audition is open to all serious dancers of ballet ages 10–21. The Company presents annual performances in December and May as well as performances at Youth America Grand Prix and local schools and institutions. Applications are available from the links above or upon request at the Front Desk.
A parent’s Meet & Greet will take place during the audition, followed by mandatory parents’ meeting with the Director.
WHO CAN AUDITION? Potential dancers do not have to be students at Cleveland City Dance*. All dancers must be a minimum of 10 years old by September 2020 and currently, be studying ballet and jazz. Company dancers not studying with Cleveland City Dance will need their current dance school to sign off monthly to confirm you are taking the required dance training necessary to be a member with City Ballet of Cleveland. All potential and current Company members must audition in the spring prior to the upcoming season.
The audition will be led by Courtney J. Laves-Mearini, Artistic and Executive Director.
AUDITION FEE: There is a $25 non-refundable audition fee with application due Thursday, April 16. After that, it is a $40 non-refundable audition fee. You may pay cash or check at Cleveland City Dance or by credit card online at www.cityballetofcleveland.org.
PARKING: There is free parking at studio’s rear entrance off Drexmore Rd, behind the movie theater.
DVD AUDITION: If unable to attend the April audition, a dancer may submit a DVD audition. The DVD audition requirements are to show your technical abilities along with performing presence
1. A 15-20 minute demonstration of barre and center technique. Barre technique includes pliés, battement tendus, battement jété, ronde de jambe, passé, développé en croix, grands battements, and balances on one leg. Center technique should include adagio, pirouettes, petite allegro, and grande allegro. Advanced female dancers should show their center work en pointe.
2. A classical variation one to two minutes in length. (On pointe for advanced ladies)
